It Was Bound to Happen

A conversation.

Ellie: Mommy, why don't we have a T.V.?

Me: Well, we really don't want one.

Ellie: Well, I want one.

heh - i remember a friend from a TV-less family in our school used to come over on weekends to stay with us out at our farm.

to we city dwellers the farm was sheer heaven: room to roam and get into all sorts of trouble outside. but to him, well, the farm had a TV. and every time we walked past the living room en route to the next adventure, a glance at the TV my father was watching on the other end of the room would literally stop him dead in his tracks. like the proverbial deer in headlights, he would stand there, dumbfounded and transfixed, until one of us would drag him away by the arm, his gaze still locked hypnotically.
